You might wonder if CBD gummies are as effective as CBD oil. Largely this has to do with personal preference in how you ingest CBD.
Some people don't care for taking straight oil in their mouth. Not too many people enjoy drinking straight olive oil or MCT oil, even if it is pleasantly flavored. Such a person might prefer switching to capsules or CBD gummies.
The quick version is that CBD oil is going to take effect faster, and might even be more effective. There's no science regarding CBD efficacy and ingestion method, but there is some knowledge about the general efficacy of ingestion and absorption methods, so that's a good starting point.
Obviously, the preference between CBD oil and CBD gummies comes down to preferring to just eat or swallow something rather than putting a dropper-full of oil in your mouth. That's fairly straight-forward.
This is where the two methods differ.
When you swallow capsules or eat gummies, the compound that you're looking to ingest (the CBD) has to be processed by the digestive system, eventually being absorbed into the bloodstream in the intestines. That's how digestion works; this applies to...literally everything you eat.
The method for taking oil, on the other hand, works a little differently.
When you take CBD oil, you put the liquid from the dropper vial under the tongue, then wait a minute or two before swallowing. In doing so, the CBD in the oil is absorbed by the digestive system but also enters the bloodstream via the mouth.
The human mouth is the fast-track to the bloodstream; placing the oil under the tongue ensures faster absorption than through mere digestion alone. This is gross to think about, but part of the reason why some people prefer chewing tobacco is that you can absorb more nicotine through the membrane of the mouth lining than you can through smoking.
In other words, you'll feel the effects more quickly by using oil. Also, you might absorb more CBD than by mere digestion; keep in mind that only so much of any compound is bioavailable and some CBD content may be lost to digestion.
CBD Gummies More Effective Than CBD Oil?
Obviously, some people prefer CBD gummies or CBD capsules to taking CBD oil for the reasons we mentioned. As mentioned, you might prefer to simply swallow or eat something rather than dropping oil in your mouth and then swallowing.
Does that mean they'll be less effective? It's more that it will take longer to take effect, and you may have to take more frequent doses. Instead of a dropper of oil in the morning and one in the afternoon, you may have to take a capsule or eat a couple of gummies every couple of hours to maintain the effects of CBD.
So, it's not so much that oil is more effective than gummies or capsules completely, but more that it works faster.
Which is better? That much is really up to you.
