A number of people have claimed that CBD oil can help tinnitus, as there are claims that use of CBD oil alleviate their symptoms or that of someone they know. Is that true?
First, the FDA has not approved CBD oil for use as medicine for tinnitus, or indeed for any medicinal use besides use of Epidiolex, a CBD oil that is only prescribed for treatment of two very specific childhood epilepsy disorders.
Second, probably not. However, it may give people relief from the symptoms of it, if - of course - taken as a folk remedy as, again, the FDA has not approved CBD oil for any use other than the manner described above.
Tinnitus is a condition of the inner ear, manifesting as a high-pitched ringing in one or both ears. Sometimes it's genetic, sometimes it's due to age, and sometimes it's due to hearing loss that a person has sustained.
The condition is especially common among people who are subjected to sustained loud noises either professionally or as part of their hobbies. Musicians are especially susceptible, as are soldiers. People who go to a lot of concerts or work in a concert venue are as well, and so are people who frequently shoot guns such as, soldiers as we mentioned, recreational and competitive shooters, as well as hunters who don't wear ear protection in the field...which we do not recommend.
Additionally, so can people who are exposed to high noise levels in the workplace, such as factory workers, machinists, people who work in construction, logging and other trades that use noisy machinery, and also airport personnel who work on the tarmac.
The ringing can also be caused by circulatory issues and a number of other physiological causes unrelated to hearing damage. The symptom is mostly a ringing in the ears, affecting about 20 percent of most adults. It can be constant or intermittent; it all depends on the person suffering from tinnitus.
Can CBD oil treat tinnitus?!
Well...no. It can't.
Does CBD Oil Help Tinnitus Patients?
Again, CBD oil is not an approved treatment for tinnitus nor for any condition except those already explicitly signed-off on by the Food and Drug Administration.
There are no medications for tinnitus. If it's caused by a disease or syndrome - dozens of different disorders and diseases can cause tinnitus, including depression and stress - medication that treats the cause will treat the tinnitus but nothing treats tinnitus itself.
Hearing loss...is irreversible. The only thing to do from then on is to take good care of your ears and make friends with an audiologist.
CBD oil shows some promise in treatment of anxiety, by acting on the adenosine (the stress hormone) reuptake nerve receptors. While not an approved treatment by the FDA for anxiety, there's some evidence that CBD oil is effective for ameliorating anxiety.
What is surmised is that the anxiety that many people experience due to their tinnitus is reduced. In other words, the tinnitus is still happening, but use of CBD will help you relax and deal with it.
In short, CBD oil doesn't do a darn thing about tinnitus, because nothing does unless your doctor diagnoses and successfully treats the underlying cause. Having said that, CBD may help how you feel while experiencing tinnitus.
